The hotel has always attracted the wealthy, and has been known as a destination for celebrities including Marlene Dietrich, Salvador Dali, and of course Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio had their heated argument while staying in Suite 1105 in 1954.
It might be shocking to remember the scene just outside the hotel in the 1976 film, Taxi Driver. Travis Bickle, played by Robert DeNiro, managed to pick up a young and model-like Betsy, played by Cybill Shepherd. Many other hotels could have been expected to appear in this nostalgic flick during a porn-infested, drug-ridden Manhattan at the time, but not such a high-class stopover as the St Regis.

Coming to the realization that she is no longer a young leading lady, Goldie Hawn cries over a cocktail at the King Cole in The First Wives' Club.
In The Godfather, Michael (Al Pacino) and Kay, (Diane Keaton) spend a night in one of the hotel's elaborate rooms.
