I have to admit, I probably get a little carried away at times when it comes to my pets. Bogey and Mimi are my furry four-legged children, and I treat them as such. A prime example –– we celebrated Mimi’s 12th birthday a few weeks ago at the beach on the North Fork of Long Island, because it’s her favorite place to be. (She’s a natural beach kitty.) We’ve partied for Bogey‘s birthday at the 79th Street Boat Basin on the Upper West Side. We, of course, are thrilled that he’s alive and well for one more year, but age is the furthest thing from his mind –– all he really cares about are the treats and affection.
It’s a bit of a relief to know that my friends cater to their pets too. Friends Heather and Gary throw an annual party for their Labradoodle, Gypsy. Unlike Bogey, Gypsy is a definite lady, and a diva to boot. She looks divine in pink and purple, attracts a large group of friends to her birthday soirees, and is a natural in front of the camera. She should’ve been a dog model.
We celebrated Gypsy’s eighth birthday last Friday at the Boat Basin Cafe with 15-20 guests. She is a popular gal! In case you haven’t been, the Boat Basin is an awesome outdoor spot connected to Riverside Park, and it boasts a tremendous view of the Hudson River. It’s also extremely pooch-friendly, making it an ideal choice for a dog party. Besides the view, the best part of going to the BB is walking through the park to get there. It’s a pleasant 15-minute stroll, so Bogey and I try and stop in at least once a week during the summer, usually during yappy happy hour.
As you can see from the photos, Gypsy was princess for a day. Actually, Gypsy’s always a princess.
