Meander past the trendy boutiques and twenty-something hipsters in the happening NoLIta neighborhood, and you’ll soon discover the elegant eyeglass designs of Anne et Valentin. This modern, mostly mirrored optical shop – located near the corner of Prince and Bowery – feels luxurious and more spacious than its modest 600 square feet. Atelier Architecture 64’s simple, sleek store design allows the sophisticated frames, which are kept beautifully and conveniently in shallow maple drawers, to
be the real stars, as they should be.
This luxury eyeglass brand isn’t new to fine spec wearers. In 1980, the journey began – a lovely French couple followed their dream and founded Anne et Valentin. Their approach was different and their vision unique. They strived to break the mold and bring a level of product and service to their clientele that had never been found before. With the launch of their first collection in 1984, ergonomics, precision and originality were the foundation.
Though form follows function and this is especially true of Anne et Valentin, you could say that the art is in the details. A team of French designers combines unique colors with lustrous finishes and unusual shapes in the vast selection of frame styles. The craftsmanship of the eyewear was evident the moment I touched the first design.
Based in Toulouse, Anne et Valentin expanded distribution to North America in 1997, and proceeded to launch the first boutique in the chic Marais section of Paris in 2000. After the loss of founding partner Valentin in 2003, Anne stepped forward and moved full speed ahead with the company. Honoring the passion and vision she shared with her love and partner, Anne et Valentin set out to open the first eponymous US location in NYC. The Prince Street flagship opened its doors in March 2013.
Visit the NoLita boutique and pros Gabriel Gestin and Raymona Celestine-Piggott will select styles best suited to your facial structure, coloring and persona. Trust their expertise as they transform your look before your eyes. The brand focuses on the lifestyle of each wearer, “how they live, move and think,” with the quest of finding that perfect frame for every individual.

As someone who’s never felt comfortable in glasses, I am also one who’s never worn Anne et Valentin. I was amazed how many different designs worked for me. With so many fashionable options, it became harder to stop modeling Ray’s selection of styles. Pair after pair, I oohed and aahed as I was quickly transformed into someone new with every frame I tried; I looked smart, conniving, industrious, playful, sexy, and all within five minutes. Anne et Valentin eyewear became my new must-have accessory.
Personally, I’ve never known any glasses to be as comfortable as these. Anne et Valentin eyewear is not only visually appealing – I could barely feel the lightweight designs framing my eyes. While chatting with friends and sporting a fab pair of sunnies, I turned and stared at that swish stranger in the mirror. Oh, yes, that’s me.
