|Bogey the Labbie|
New York is a dog town. All kinds of dogs both large and small live in Manhattan. Uptown is easier for the larger breeds due to the proximity to Central Park and Riverside Park with off-leash areas. This may be why Standard Poodles, German Shepherds, Great Danes and Labrador Retrievers are plentiful.
|Bogey the Lover|
They see each other from afar, often a block away. I think it’s the floppy ears and panting tongues. Bogey will of course pull toward the other Lab, then whimper in a high-pitched key of G Major. The other dog will be drawn to him, sometimes drooling. Usually as owners, we give in. Once the eligible canines come together, noses touch, lips may lock, butts may be sniffed or other, and it’s always a look of love.
This rarely happens with other breeds. and it is especially prevalent when Bogey meets another Chocolate Lab. Perhaps it’s like looking in the mirror?! It’s as if they are saying, ” Hello Choco Labbie.” “Hello back atcha Labbie.” “I love you Labbie, I love you.”
