|I purchased a pair of Cynthia Gale earrings a few years back. At the time I had no idea that I would one day meet the artist.|
My love of Cynthia Gale jewelry all started with a single pair of earrings. I was paging through the newspaper about five years ago and spotted a pair I liked that were sold through the New York Times store. My timing couldn’t have been better since I needed a birthday gift for Mike’s mom. When I eyed the bronze and sterling silver skyline trinkets, I knew they would be perfect for Sylvia.

I purchased the earrings and sent them to Atlanta in time for her birthday, and of course, she loved them! Every time she wears the mini-skyscrapers she points and says, “Look!” And she smiles. And then I smile, knowing she has donned these bronze and silver drops many times, and thought of Mike and me across the miles on each occasion.

Little did I know five years ago, but I would one day have the privilege of meeting the creative mind behind that pair of earrings. Last week I visited Cynthia Gale and toured her beautiful NYC studio. We chatted like old friends and realized that we live in the same neighborhood. It was fun checking out her collections (I had only seen the earrings before in person), because I quickly discovered that I love every item she designs.
What I love most about Cynthia Gale jewelry is the meaning behind each creation. The fashion-model-turned-artist transforms silver into unique pieces that “mix the creative heritage of Indonesian culture with her American and European roots.” Gale fell in love with Indonesia more than 15 years ago on her first trip, and has forged relationships with the country’s artisans to bring her designs to fruition.
Choose from necklaces, rings, bracelets, cufflinks and more. I also love that there’s something for everyone –– male, female, and any age group.

She has licensing partnerships with the Barnes Foundation, the New York Historical Society, the Brooklyn Museum, the Kennedy Center and the New York Transit Museum, to name a few. This is a neat way to give back –– a percentage of each sale goes to support the endeavors of the cultural institution.
I selected three pieces to try myself –– the Retro Metro NYC Authentic Token Sterling Bracelet (I think this is my favorite!), the White Pearl Mod Pod Sterling Silver Birthstone Stack Ring, and the Forget Me Not Flutter Necklace.
|Believe it or not, those are real subway tokens in the bracelet.|
And here are some other Cynthia Gale pieces I adore and would love to add to my closet.
