New York City, despite all its changes and increasing hardships, is still a city of dreamers. From entrepreneurs to aspiring artists, anyone who “thinks big” is in good company when living in the Big Apple. But even in the best of circumstances, thoughts of doubt can seep in and it’s not uncommon for fear to rear its ugly head when we’re trying to reach our goals. For females alone, it was found – via the first Global Dreams Index Survey – that half of all women around the world are dissatisfied with their lives and have given up on their dreams. That’s quite a staggering percentage.
Dreams can be anything, whether it’s building a successful career, moving to NYC, or traveling the world. To help keep those dreams alive, the skincare brand SK-II brought a special event to Madison Square Park yesterday, which featured the best type of counselors for this particular topic – children. Approaching adults, the kids challenged them to dream big, share their aspirations, and counseled them about bringing those dreams to fruition.
Often, children are the best teachers when it comes to reminding ourselves of our dreams. Think about it. Being a kid was when we were the purest forms of ourselves; before we were influenced by outside factors, social expectations, and unsolicited negativity. I can’t think of a more charming surprise for Madison Square Park visitors than to receive a dose of childlike wonder and hope in the midst of NYC’s hectic atmosphere.
With women losing sight of their dreams during adulthood, SK-II is now hosting these events with pint-sized counselors around the world, inspiring us to live outside our comfort zone and strive for what we really want. So to all the women in NYC and beyond (even if you can’t attend one of these events): Remember your dreams – and then remind yourself that you have the power to make those dreams come true.
