Fall 2018 fashion trends in the big city
Fall doesn’t officially start until Saturday, September 22nd; but that hasn’t stopped the pumpkin spice latte-filled frenzy of people who can’t wait to celebrate the new season. (Considering how fabulous autumn in New York is, we really can’t blame anyone for the excitement.) For Big Apple fashionistas, fall 2018 fashion trends include updated versions of classic favorites, as well as some eye-popping showstoppers. Here’s what you’re likely to see around this fall’s NYC style scene.
The 80s fashion aesthetic is nothing new, as the past several seasons have been paying homage to the likes of Cyndi Lauper and Madonna. Color palettes, however, are now turning the volume up with bright neon colors. It’s totally understandable if you don’t want to rock a neon green bandage dress to the club (although we’ll applaud you if you do), but neon accessories and layering pieces are an easy way to incorporate this fall trend into your current wardrobe.
Think films like Dead Poets Society and When Harry Met Sally. New York City is the perfect place to embrace the preppy chic look with collegiate classics like pleated khakis, wrap calf-length skirts, cardigans, and tweed jackets.
When it’s chilly, but not quite cold enough for a full-on puffer coat, capes are a classic outerwear pick. Those autumn walks through Central Park will be extra stylish with a cape thrown over your favorite turtleneck and jeans.
The Leather Dress
The Fall 2018 trend forecast predicts leather – but not just when it comes to boots and jackets. A leather dress is unassumingly daring and surprisingly versatile. Shake up your Saturday nights out with a leather mini dress or try a calf-length version with sleeves for a look that’s sexy and sophisticated.
Even if you can’t tear yourself away from wearing primarily black, adding a splash of silver to the mix is an easy way to incorporate one of this season’s trends. Metallics have been making an appearance on the runways for a few years now but Fall 2018 is dedicated to sleek silver.
Cold weather clothing is all about textures, and timeless tweed is the star of this fashion season. Whether you invest in a tweed coat, blazer, handbag, or a pair of tweed pumps, it’s the perfect complement to your everyday workwear.
With the holidays on the horizon, we’re happy to report that effortless cuts – rather than body-hugging styles – were all over the Fall 2018 runways. Feel free to indulge in your favorite holiday treats, as roomy tunics, trousers, skirts, and sweaters will keep you looking on-trend while enjoying the rest of the year in comfort.
Plus, autumn in New York!
