Free Wine Tastings in NYC
The only thing better than a glass of good wine is enjoying that glass free of charge. Not only are free samples a New Yorker’s best friend, but wine tasting is the ultimate way to perfect your palate and potentially discover a new favorite. Whether you’re in search of the perfect bottle for your next dinner party, or just looking for a fun way to spend an afternoon, try any of these spots for free wine tastings in NYC.
Union Square Wines & Spirits, 140 4th Ave
Known for their generous wine and liquor tastings, Union Square Wines & Spirits proudly opens more free bottles during a single event than many importers do over the course of a year. More than a dozen bottles are typically uncorked and sampled during an average Saturday, and often tastings dedicated to high-end spirits like specialty gin or a bergamot liqueur are on the schedule.
Pour, 321 Amsterdam Ave
As an Upper West Side favorite, Pour offers a boutique wine shopping experience – not to mention, free wine tastings every day. Stop by Monday-Friday from 5:30-8:30 p.m. or Saturday and Sunday from 2:30-8:30 p.m. to sample some of Pour’s featured bottles. If you’re shopping around for a bottle to take home, you’ll love how the shop categorizes their wines according to type (bubbly, crisp, velvety, sweet, etc.) rather than region.
Chelsea Wine Vault, 75 9th Ave
Chelsea Wine Vault, conveniently located inside the Chelsea Market, is a “temperature-controlled wine paradise.” Every bottle in stock has been vetted by a team of wine connoisseurs, from those priced at $7 to those costing a whopping $2,000. Check out the Chelsea Wine Vault’s social media pages for upcoming free wine tastings.
Vinyl Wine, 1491 Lexington Ave
The Upper East Side may be relatively tame by reputation, but it’s also home to one of the best free wine tastings in NYC. At Vinyl Wine, complimentary samples of wines and spirits are served every Thursday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. while music plays in the background. It’s the perfect way to relax and unwind after a busy day.
Some Good Wine, 13 E 8th St
With a name that doesn’t beat around the bush, Some Good Wine is a neighborhood favorite. At least one free wine tasting is hosted every month (check their calendar for updates) and usually lasts from 6:00-8:00 p.m. The shop also features $5 wine tastings ($5 back toward a purchase of featured wines of the night). Some Good Wine posts notifications for impromptu wine tastings on Facebook, so be on the lookout.
Nolita Wine Merchants, 227 Mulberry St
Nolita Wine Merchants is a food and wine lover’s dream, offering food pairing notes for almost every bottle of wine found instore. Not only do their free wine tastings give you a chance to discover wines from around the world (we’re talking from Australia to the Canary Islands), but they occasionally have special guest appearances by the winemakers themselves. It doesn’t get much more “NYC wine aficionado” than casually sipping a glass of wine while chatting with the person who created it.
