Happy Holidays….Merry Christmas…and Cheers to 2019! Are you traveling anywhere over the holidays? I’ll be at home on the Upper West Side, eating, drinking and celebrating with family and friends. 🙂 Then I’ll spend some time gearing up for the new year before I ring in 2019, also in NYC.
I’ll probably spend some time binge-watching. (I do a lot of that in wintertime.) I just finished The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel on Amazon and I can’t recommend this show enough!
As a fan of the celebrated New York restaurant, Eleven Madison Park, I want to mention a new Netflix show that I’ll be watching called 7 Days Out. The documentary series offers a behind-the-scenes look at seven days before a major historical or cultural event, and the restaurant’s reopening after its extensive four-month renovation is featured in an episode. (Full disclosure: I attended a press preview and watched it already – it’s so good!).
Eleven Madison Park was named the best restaurant in the world in 2017, and for all the foodies out there (or design enthusiasts), this episode is a much-watch. The Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show (takes place every February in NYC) is also featured in the series. It premieres today, December 21.
If you’re looking for something Christmassy to do, visit the window displays. Bergdorf Goodman never disappoints! I went earlier this week and as always, they are spectacular. The theme this year is “Bergdorf’s Goodies.” I also recommend stopping into Henri Bendel, two blocks south of Bergdorf’s. The women’s retail store is closing its doors in January, so it will be your last chance to own a piece of Bendel.
Now let’s take a look back at our year with some of our favorite posts on tracysnewyorklife.com.
You’ll never run short on fun activities in New York, but be sure to do these 12 things as least one time. But get out of Manhattan. There are countless things to do in Brooklyn! And don’t forget about the other boroughs.
New Yorkers will attest – brunch is the quintessential New York meal, and you’ll find scores of New Yorkers brunching every weekend. Get out there on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon and have some pancakes or waffles. And if you’re hungover, eat here.
And don’t worry, if you can’t make it to NYC anytime soon, you can whip up some of the tastiest recipes featured in these cookbooks from New York eateries.
Fashion continues to evolve in this great city. If there’s one style staple that every New Yorker should own, it’s something cashmere.
We cannot forget the designers that changed the style game forever, or those icons that influenced New York’s fashion identity.
We touched a bit on history in New York in 2018– did you know that these random things were invented in the Big Apple? I was surprised by some too. And the history of Tiffany & Co is incredibly interesting.
If you’re looking to hop a plane to escape the New York area, these nonstop flights make it super easy to get away. What’s stopping you?
I went on a few summer escapes this year, including a solo trip to Ottawa. What a cool, multicultural city!
I also ate a lot of delicious food and drank wonderful wines when I spent the week alone in Oregon.
I did see some of the new and improved LaGuardia Airport a few weeks ago, and I think when it’s all said and done, it’s going to be fantastic. Right now, we just need to be patient. But it gives travelers something to look forward to because the old LaGuardia was embarrassingly awful. I’ll put together a post when the new and improved airport is complete.
