I made the first of my weekly trips tonight to the DR at 88th and Broadway. Obviously, I’ve been an absentee and completely out of the loop. My husband also forgot to clue me in. My store (I call it my store because I practically live there part-time) is becoming a mini superstore!
The store has been under renovation for months now. I asked immediately when the process began if this location was going to get groceries. Wishful thinking on my behalf. The answer was “some”. Of course space is limited here, so it could not possibly be a complete superstore like the one on 57th Street, or the flagship store on Wall Street. I assumed it would be the typical Campbell’s soup, pretzels, chips and nuts, along with some other processed food here and there.
I was wrong. I walked into the space which is still in disarray, and I saw apples and avocados! Fresh fruit? Oh my—I kept walking and there it was—a refrigerated section with veggies, cheese, hummus, and other groceries.
Now I am able to do one-stop shopping. As a New Yorker, I am spoiled by convenience.
What can be more convenient than buying t.p., windex, tomatoes, beer, Benadryl, salad greens, and hair color in a single location, just a 2 minute walk from my apartment?
All I can say is Happy Columbus Day! ‘ill go back later in the week to see what other goodies have been added. If I can wait that long—I may need to go tomorrow to check out the progress.
Fresh pineapple–maybe this is coming next?
