Though you may have been fortunate enough to extend the seasonal shelf-life of your ballet flats in the unexpectedly warm fall weather, sooner or later you’ll need to put on some socks. More importantly, you’ll eventually need a new pair of boots –– another reason to be excited about fall, in my humble opinion. There are so many fun designs to choose from this season, from lace-ups to over-the-knee. Tracy’s New York Life has rounded up our favorite boot trends of the fall.
Though ambitious, the thigh-high boot is all the rage this season. From the moment Kate Moss slid them on in the fall ‘13 Stuart Weitzman ads, they appeared everywhere. Next stop, your feet. The Stuart Weitzman “Hitest Boot” is sexy and sleek, and comes in both black and olive suede. Head to the flagship store at 625 Madison Avenue to pick up your personal pair. And as for how to wear them, pair your thigh-high boots with a full skirt, shift dress or even skinny jeans on casual days.

No. 6 is most famous for their clogs, found on the feet of celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow. They’ve mastered the art of remaining true to their design while adapting to trends and seasons. The high-heel version of their classic clog, is in itself, a classic. Perfect for the chillier and messier days of the fall, this boot will transition through winter and into early spring, and even get better with time. The suede and nubuck leathers are both water repellant. Stop by No. 6 in Little Italy to pick up a pair and enjoy the frequent art and music events they host.

Dr. Martens have been resurrected in a huge way. The classic 1460 remains, but there are also some additional offerings, like the 7-Eyelet ‘Aisha’ Canvas Boot. The Aisha comes to us compliments of a fantastic Dr. Marten collaboration with fellow British brand, Liberty London. The juxtaposition of this collaboration –– natural and feminine vs. rugged and rebellious –– is perfected, making an ideal NYC boot. The cherry red color marries nicely with the patterned poplin lining. Pick up a pair at the Dr. Martens store in SoHo.

Another fabulous fall footwear style is the over-the-knee boot. Dolce Vita always offers great value, and the ‘Jemi’ boot is no different. It’s on trend with a touch of studded and subtle detail. Drop by the Dolce Vita store on Elizabeth Street to try these and probably about 10 other pairs, and you’re likely to fall in love with more than one pair of Dolce Vitas.

With a generous supply of stylish boots and sunny days, it should be easy to enjoy the cooler weather which has finally arrived. And, if style and sun don’t quite do it for you, then hey, there’s always plenty of pumpkin-spiced treats to hold you over.
