Make the city your gym
New York City is a concrete jungle, but there are endless ways to workout in the city, no gym membership required. It’s a city brimming with health-conscious people and staying fit can be considered part of the culture here. Can’t afford that pricey fitness center? Get creative and make the city your gym in 2020 and beyond.
Try a fitness app.

Go for a run and explore a new neighborhood.
One of the best ways to explore an area of town and exercise at the same time is get out and about. Go for a run, and instead of hitting your same route, explore a new neighborhood or even a different borough, and get to know all of your city.
Bike to work.
Your commute to work is an opportunity to exercise. Rather than taking public transit, hop a Citi Bike instead. Take a backpack with you so you can wear your sneakers for the bike ride and change into suitable work attire upon arrival to work.
Take the stairs in your high-rise building and do stair exercises.
The high-rise building where you live or work can double as a gym. Take the stairs for a few turns, incorporate stairs into a HIIT workout, and do some stair exercises such as step-ups and stair hops. Remember to take it slow and engage your glutes on the way down from your stair runs.
Try yoga in Central Park.
You can do yoga at home for an effective mind-body workout, or take it to Central Park solo, with friends, or join a group class to practice outside surrounded by nature. Yoga is an effective workout to enhance your flexibility, strength, and willpower. Or, just grab a pair of comfy sneakers and go for a long walk.
Work your arms with a grocery haul (don’t fall for grocery delivery services).
Transform a general life activity such as grocery shopping into a workout. Rather than opting for a grocery delivery service or taking a car service for the quickest way home possible, make carrying grocery bags your workout. Just remember to bring your durable reusable bags so you avoid any breakage.
