On June 15, I’ll attend the 13th annual Midsummer Night Drinks, a benefit for the nonprofit organization, God’s Love We Deliver. The event will be hosted by Vince and Louise Camuto at Villa Maria in the Hamptons. Not only is the party one of the most anticipated evenings of the East End’s summer season with cocktails, music and amazing views from one of the most talked-about homes, but it’s a way to show support for one of New York City’s well-respected charities.
God’s Love We Deliver was founded in 1985 by hospice worker, Ganga Stone. The journey began with just one meal for one person, and has evolved into an organization in which more than 20,000 meals are served to NYC residents every week. Meals are tailored to New Yorkers’ individual medical and nutritional needs, and delivered to their homes each day with love. With approximately 8,000 annual volunteers, all God’s Love services are provided free of charge without regard to income and without a waiting list.
This year, the fundraiser is especially important since the nonprofit will begin the renovation and expansion of their SoHo headquarters later this summer. The entire God’s Love operation will be moved to a temporary facility in South Williamsburg with no interruption in service to their clients. That is no easy undertaking!
The God’s Love team has raised $23.4 million – or 90 percent of their minimum $25 million goal – toward the expansion campaign thus far. This includes a very generous leadership gift of $5 million from fashion designer Michael Kors, also the newest board member. Receiving continued support from the local community will ensure a smooth transition to the Brooklyn facility and back again to their SoHo home.
About Villa Maria
Built in 1887, the eclectic villa boasts Beaux-Arts, Neoclassical and Colonial Revival design elements. It’s situated on almost 15 acres in Water Mill, and is thought to be the area’s most well-known landmark. How generous of the Camutos to host Midsummer Night Drinks’ 400-plus guests for the evening. The estate is located between Mill Creek and Mecox Bay with 1100 feet of waterfront, creating a spectacular backdrop for this event.
