Just another dog walk at lunch, or so I thought. On our way back from Central Park one day last week, Bogey and I met up with a couple of very interesting characters.
We stopped at 89th and Columbus and while waiting for the traffic light to change, I saw a handsome couple just ahead. I had seen his nose somewhere before. Could it be? I got closer, and the female half with her long blonde locks looked and smiled at Bogey. This is not unusual. Bogey is a ladies’ man. Women smile at him on the streets of Manhattan every day. I said “Hi” and then she grinned at me. I recognized her delicate, feminine face beneath the sunglasses. And then he turned his baseball hat-covered head toward me.
It was them. Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick. Oh my. Right next to me while I was walking my dog. OH MY! Knowing they are my neighbors, a chance meeting is always possible. I never thought I would see them strolling down the street like other New Yorkers, however. I remained calm, and tried desperately not to react. Deep breaths.
The light changed and we crossed the street. I passed them at the corner and she was still smiling at Mr. B. She said, “What a cute dog! You’re a big boy!”
I responded, “Yeah–he’ll lick you to death!”
And then it happened. Kevin Bacon reached down and petted my dog softly and sweetly on the head. We kept walking. They followed us for another block and then Kyra turned off 89th. Kevin seemed to continue all the way to Broadway. I went one block farther.
They were probably thinking, “Gee, I guess we’re just not that famous anymore. People don’t even know who we are on the streets of New York City.” Okay Kevin and Kyra, most adorable celebrity couple ever, I knew who you were!
In the game “Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon,” is my Bacon Number a “1” or a “2”? Kevin did not actually talk to me, but Kyra did. Kevin did however pet Bogey, and he is my dog.
I am going to say that I have a Bacon score of 1.5 in this situation. Not too shabby for a non-movie star.
Star-struck and still shocked, I told Bogey that it was his lucky day. He was called “cute” by the beautiful Kyra Sedgwick, and he was petted by the charming and talented Kevin Bacon. Since Bogey loves old movies like A Few Good Men and Footloose, he agreed.
What Kevin and Kyra did not realize, is that Bogey is the most handsome dog on the Upper West Side. I guess it was their lucky day too.
