At tracysnewyorklife.com, we aim to bring interesting and unique content to you, our readers, but we’re far from alone in the Big Apple blogosphere. There’s a host of other top New York City bloggers that offer informative and entertaining reads and amazing photography. These happen to be some of my personal favorites, and I suggest that you check them out if you haven’t already.
NY Through the Lens
Photographer and writer Vivienne Gucwa chronicles images and words on NY Through the Lens. The Queens native explores the “ever-changing landscape” of NYC with her photojournalistic style of the city’s architecture and neighborhoods. One can’t help but feel nostalgic when viewing Gucwa’s work. Haunting and heartening, her landscape photos tend to have a “painterly” quality to them, and she captures the city’s buildings elegantly, as you can see below.
Used York City
Creator Jessica T. Bowen encourages all of us to get out and use our city. On her NYC lifestyle blog, she suggests iconic, off-the-beaten-path, and free things to do in New York focusing on culture, food and experiences. Find out her top restaurant picks, where to take affordable fitness classes, how to see free Broadway shows, as well as her travels and a glimpse of life as a mom in NYC. Oddly, Jess and I have never met in person (even with the best of intentions) but we have been virtual friends for years and supporting each other’s blogging efforts. Maybe one day we’ll actually meet. 🙂
Brick Underground is my top pick for all things related to New York City real estate. (Perhaps I’m a bit biased since I used to write for this site regularly.) Nevertheless, whether you’re on the hunt for a new apartment rental, aiming to buy a flat in the near future, or considering cashing in at the height of the market, you’ll get the hottest listings along with valuable NYC-focused real estate tips. Beyond covering NYC apartments, Brick Underground features articles on topics like finding a roommate, renovating in the city, and hacks for everyday living.
A Cup of Jo
Magazine writer turned blogger Joanna Goddard has been called the “Queen of the Blogosphere” by Refinery 29, and A Cup of Jo has been labeled one of the “Top 100 Websites for Women” by Forbes. Goddard’s casual, conversational writing style, frank approach, and stellar photography keep readers coming back. The site covers topics like fashion, design, food, travel, relationships, and motherhood. Her blog posts are completely relatable, and no matter how busy I am, I MUST check in at least weekly for a shot of Jo.
Humans of New York
As it’s a world-renowned photography site, you’re probably well aware of HONY or you may follow it already. Brandon Stanton’s photo blog and now best-selling book depicts New Yorkers’ lives and stories through both images and interviews. Since the founding of the website in summer 2010, Stanton has curated thousands of photos. In August 2014, the self-taught photographer collaborated with the United Nations and traveled to ten countries during a 50-day “World Tour,” on which he compiled portraits and stories of the fascinating people he met along the way.
Humans of New York has proven how one individual’s efforts and ideals can affect many. Now both a philanthropist and photographer, Stanton not only documents the lives of New Yorkers and others around the world, but globally unites humans of varying ethnicities, religions, and cultures through blogging and social media.
