What’s on your NYC bucket list?
To be honest I don’t have a New York City bucket list. I suppose I did when I first moved to the city in 2007, but I couldn’t tell you what was on it. While living in New York––and even before when I was a tourist––I’ve done many quintessential things, but I haven’t hit them all.
Let’s face it, there are countless things to do in New York, and many are even FREE. So it’s nearly impossible to see and experience all that this city offers, because NYC offers so, so much!
Of all my discoveries and experiences since I moved here, I’d say attending the Tony Awards is my I-can’t-believe-I-did-that thing. But there are many simpler outings, the everyday excursions that become more special because they happened in New York. Like eating a great slice of pizza. Joe’s, anyone? Or sipping a fantastic cocktail. Or even riding a tram.
NYCtutoring.com compiled the “Ultimate NYC bucket list: 57 things every New Yorker needs to do” and it includes everything from eating a real New York bagel to strolling the High Line to visiting the Bronx Zoo to ice skating in Central Park.
How many things can you cross off this NYC Bucket List? If you live in New York City, eventually you’ll be able to check off most of what’s on this list. But if you’re a tourist, you’d have to travel to New York every year (at least) to make a dent.
There are a few things on this list that I’d still like to do:
- Check out a concert at Madison Square Garden. It has to be Billy Joel. As a huge fan, I’ve seen him three times, but never at MSG.
- Breathe in the fresh air at Brooklyn Botanic Garden. I have yet to visit but it’s long been on my list.
- See a New York sporting event live. And for me that would be a Yankees game. Because everyone has been to a Yankees game, and I have not been to a ballgame since I moved to New York. (Crazy, I know!)
What’s the one thing I won’t do? Take a course at NYC’s trapeze school. While flying through the air with the greatest of ease sounds fun, I’m terrified of heights and falling. So no. Not for me!
What would you like to do on this New York City bucket list? What would you not like to do? Let me know in the comments.
Also, things I love to do no matter how touristy. And things to do on a rainy day in New York.
Plus, things to do in Prospect Park.

I love this bucket list. As New Yorkers we have ticked off most on this list. I noticed we have lots in common.
Billy Joel is my favorite artist and met him while working at JFK as a teen. My wife took me to see him at MSG once to celebrate a Birthday. Great time. I hope you get to experience soon. The Brooklyn Botanical Garden is amazing especially for the Cherry Blossom Festival. Finally, the Yankees are the best Baseball team on the planet. LOL. Enjoy your Labor Day weekend.

Billy Joel is the best in concert, isn’t he? Your wife is very lucky! I hope to see him at MSG one day. I will note the Cherry Blossom Festival. Thanks for the tip!

Great list.
NYC is my favourite city in the world. Over two visits I’ve ticked off heaps of items on my list ,but there is always more.
My highlights:
-Going to a recording of The Daily Show when Jon Stewart hosted
– Getting the opportunity to go to the Rare Book section at Columbia Uni Library and reading the papers of Helene Hanff ( had to organise in advance)
-Basketball at Madison Sq Garden
-Two walks with. Big Apple Greeter over 2 trips. Having afternoon tea at his apartment in Queens and watching sunset over Manhattan
-Sunset from Top of the Rock on a freezing cold November afternoon
– Dessert and drinks at Ellen’s Stardust Diner after seeing Come from Away
– Going to the Alexander McQueen shop(didn’t buy anything!)
So many wonderful memories and have another list going for my next visit

Hi Erica,
You have hit a lot of the highlights! I adore Jon Stewart and never saw his show. I have heard great things about Big Apple Greeters… and the Columbia Univ Library sounds amazing. Jealous on that one!
