On the way to fashion week shows in NYC. {credit} |
When it comes to fashion and the latest trends, the runway shows at New York, London and Paris Fashion Week are the ultimate source of inspiration. For Spring/Summer 2016, NYC’s runways were heavy on the florals and resort wear – a nice change from our signature, all-black ensembles. London’s styles were bold, daring, and a beautiful mix of masculine and feminine cuts. And Paris, of course, maintained the sophistication of its couture fashion houses while incorporating modern touches.
One takeaway New York locals will appreciate: flat shoes were everywhere on the catwalk – yay for comfortable feet! Here are some of my fashion week favorites for this season.
NEW YORK FASHION WEEK
Anna Sui
Anna Sui always produces exotic, bold floral prints. For spring and summer this year, girly cuts and patterns are paired with sporty pieces such as varsity jackets, for a more street-savvy look.

Naeem Khan
In terms of New York Fashion Week’s SS 2016 collections, Naeem Khan’s runway show was my absolute favorite. Inspired by gardens in the South of France, the blue waters off the coast of Capri, and starlets of the 1950s/1960s, his collection oozes glamour and effortless sophistication.

Hanley
Designers around the world were heavily influenced by Cuba for this season’s styles and NYC-based Hanley displayed chic, wearable pieces. Channel an aura of balmy Havana nights with these sweet, yet sultry looks.

LONDON FASHION WEEK
Christopher Kane
Christopher Kane was the “it” label for cool and edgy styles when I lived in London, and the designer’s SS 2016 runway show was no exception. Black canvases with splashes of neon and over-the-top fringes are a modern regeneration of 1980s and 1990s aesthetics.

Alexander McQueen
Alexander McQueen was the golden child of London’s luxury fashion scene, but Sarah Burton – the brand’s current creative director who also designed Kate Middleton’s wedding gown – has definitely done his name justice for London Fashion Week. The SS 2016 collection was dangerously sheer, with dramatic ruffles and high collars inspired by the French Huguenots of the 16th century.

Haizhen Wang
This season, Haizhen Wang presented loose, masculine cuts paired with bandage-like details and jeweled choker necklaces. The contrast between the fitted, cropped, and breezy garments creates balance, and his tailoring is impeccable.

PARIS FASHION WEEK
Christian Dior
As my all-time favorite couturier, Christian Dior’s runway shows at Paris Fashion Week are always a highlight for me. This season’s looks are brimming with intricate embroidery, crystals, and structured volume – all, very “savoir-faire.”

Louis Vuitton
The Spring/Summer 2016 collection by Louis Vuitton was modeled after video game heroines and featured a wearable juxtaposition between color-washed silks and leather. Nothing gamer-related has ever looked this en vogue.

Balenciaga
Femininity and masculinity come together (are you starting to see a trend here?) in Balenciaga’s current fashion line, which features silky, lingerie-inspired pieces and wide-cut trousers that mimic pajama pants. Think “boudoir-meets-office.”
