Besides the cold, February brings plenty of good things. New York Fashion Week takes center stage, and then there’s Groundhog Day, President’s Day (long weekend!), and Valentine’s Day –– which is always an excuse to overindulge in chocolate. And for the past two Februarys, the Oscars happened this month (I confess. I was glued to my television for hours yesterday watching the pre-show and the E red carpet, and then last night for the awards ceremony.)
When I came up with tactics to beat the blues this winter, I knew I’d want to host a little soiree when I couldn’t take any more frigid weather. I also happen to love to entertain, even in my small apartment. I just need to be organized and push my creativity to make do with a more compact space. Things like placing a coat rack out in the hall to avoid the clutter of bulky winter coats, setting up a specific spot for a bar that’s separate from the food, and getting the platters organized before everyone arrives with their dishes, make all the difference.
So Saturday night was ideal for a girls’ night (plus one gent) –– one week after Valentine’s Day and on Oscars’ Eve.
I mixed cocktails while my ladies and southern gentleman brought appetizers and dessert. We chatted about our Academy Award predictions and favorite TV shows, and we ate lots of popcorn. Because that’s what you do when you go to the movies.
