Here’s how you can support New York restaurants
Every New Yorker has a list of go-to restaurants––the place with the best cheese slice or everything bagel, that hole-in-the-wall yet amazing Asian eatery, a neighborhood café, and of course, a diner. While not every one of our favorites remains open during this trying time, many do. Countless restaurants in NYC are offering food and drink for pickup and delivery as the city’s shutdown continues.
Many restaurant owners have also set up fundraising pages to offer support to staff. I recommend finding your favorites and whatever you can spare, donate. In the midst of COVID-19 in New York, we can help keep our service industry going by ordering food and beverages, as well as purchasing gift certificates and contributing to GoFundMe pages as our finances allow.
The time is now, more than ever, to support local restaurants in New York City. Even if you don’t live in NYC, you can support your favorites by giving a few dollars. Most tourists who visit New York regularly have their preferred places too. Every little bit helps and no donation is too small.
And for New Yorkers struggling (there are many) during this time, perhaps ordering delivery from a different restaurant in your neighborhood one night each week or every other week can make a difference.
Below, some of my personal picks.
In the comments, feel free to suggest other New York restaurants that could use our support. There are many who need us now more than ever!
It’s hard to believe that the city felt like its usual energetic self just a few weeks ago when I walked through Times Square. Since then, the situation has changed dramatically. But New Yorkers are tough and incredibly resilient. We will get through this!
