LIFE IN THE APPLE
Yesterday was a brisk spring day in New York, but the sun was shining brightly on thousands of tulips in the West Side Community Garden. Locals of all ages filled the volunteer greenspace to get a glimpse of the blooming buds, which will look their very best when they peak within the next week to ten days.
Located between Columbus and Amsterdam Avenues with entrances on both West 89th and 90th Streets, this hidden gem is saturated with every color of the rainbow. Hyacinths, Lenten roses and other flowering plants, as well as greenery, accompany the tulips in the garden.
The little slice of heaven is a hop, skip and jump from public transportation for a convenient stop on the Upper West Side. I recommend blocking out a bit of time over the upcoming week to swing by and take in the tulips of 2013. Though I’m sharing some of the highlights on the blog, photos don’t capture the true beauty of springtime in New York.
