SHARE YOUR STORY
by Rose from Oz
Rose from Oz is my long distance follower, friend, and fellow lover of New York City. I asked Rose to write a piece for “Share Your Story” and she obliged. Although she hasn’t visited New York as of this writing, I know that one day she will. She captures the essence of this city in her lovely tribute below.

It was very exciting — especially the tales she would tell about New York City — as they were told to her. (I always thought she was secretly in love with one of the American officers.) I held such romantic notions, and a vivid imagination.
As the years went by, I’d watch every Hollywood movie where New York City was showcased and as the world knows only too well, there were plenty! When the other children were doing their class scrapbook projects on the inner workings of the cane toad, I was researching NYC and cutting out pictures of ‘her’ icons from anything I could lay my hands on. But in the set of Great Cities of the World encyclopedia, (of which I’m sure my mother went into debt to buy), lay the best pictures of all- – just waiting for the scissors and paste . . .
I was in heaven when color television arrived in Australia, and I was able to see New York in all of her colorful and gritty splendor. Her magnificent architecture came to life; her beauty and grandeur was on display, and her ugly expanses laid bare and stripped of all pretense.
Much more recently, along came a superbly produced, modern six-part documentary of not only New York City herself, revealing fascinating history and facts, but also ‘real’ people with the ‘joie de vivre’ they embrace.
Will this global power conurbation use its magnetic pull to draw this moth to the flame like the other 40 million plus annual visitors?
Are her charm, attractions, allure, energy and absolute power resistible?
Life’s unfolding twists and turns shall provide the answer.

This page is dedicated to all New Yorkers—past, present, future and those at heart. If you currently live, have lived, will live, or dream of living in NYC, tell us what your first day was like, how you got to the Big Apple, or the reasons why you love New York and imagine living here.
Or maybe you’ve lived here your entire life, we’d love to know why you’re still here. Even if you have a great NYC moment and you like telling the story, we’ll listen to that too.
